Healthy living according to Islam
Healthy according to a large dictionary of the Indonesian language is both the whole body and its parts (free from illness) .1 From the meaning on the side we can conclude simple that healthy is when all parts of our body good and free from disease. As according to the religion of healthy Islam has a broad meaning, healthy not only meant for physical health (body) but also spiritual health (soul), and positive thinking. It means Islam teaches its people to keep the three aspects above (physical, spiritual, and positive thinking).
1. Physical health
Religion of Islam provides guidance and suggestion clearly stated in al-qur'an and hadith about maintaining physical health, in al-qur'an Allah says:
يا أيها الناس كلوا مما في الأرض حلالا طيبا
"O mankind, eat what is lawful and good from what is in the earth"
(QS.Al Baqarah.168)
from the above paragraph alone we can draw the conclusion that God as the god of the universe reminds all his creatures to eat food that is lawful and good. Well we underline the good and lawful nature that God mentioned in that verse. Halal in question is all the food that is the dzatnya, how to get it, and how to process it is kosher or in accordance with the guidance of Islam, there are foods that are not kosher as halag pig, and animals are forbidden to eat, there are also foods that way get it is not kosher, eg food from the stolen property of others, then there are also foods that process it wrong so it becomes haram to be eaten like liquor. That was the kosher understanding of the above verse, then Allah also mentions the food should not only be halal but also must be good for our bodies, food is kosher but not good for our body it will also cause illness, for example we eat halal bread , but without we realize it turns out the bread is not feasible to eat, then it is definitely not good for our bodies. That's how God teaches us to maintain physical health, not only to remind the halal side but also to remind ourselves to eat good food for our bodies.
Allah also says in al-quran:
وكلوا واشربوا ولا تسرفوا إنه لا يحب المسرفين
"Eat and drink, and do not overdo it. Allah does not love those who exaggerate." (Surat al-A'raaf: 31).
The above verse also explains the suggestion and prohibition of exaggeration in eating and drinking, if we look at the first and second words 'eat and drink', as if God commanded us that a good way to eat is to eat first after it ends with drinking, according to the reference that the author can that drink just before eating will make the process of absorption of food by enzymes becomes more difficult. Because the water takes 30 minutes to flow from the stomach to the intestine. So if you drink a moment before eating, have not had time to water to the intestine has been added with foods that make enzymes more difficult to work.2 Let us meditate God has even explained the correct procedure of eating and drinking, subhanallah. Then in the above verse also explains that we should not eat or drink excessive, because if eating and drinking excess will certainly cause a bad impact for our body, just imagine if we eat as much and as much as we want will certainly arise disease. That's how Islam teaches us in maintaining physical health, in fact there are many verses of al-qur'an and hadith of the prophet who explain about how to maintain health, but God willing will be explained in subsequent posts.
2. Spiritual health
According to Dr. Jalaluddin in his book "Psychology of Religion" that:
"Spiritual health is an inner state that is always in a state of calm, safe and serene, and an attempt to find inner calm can be done, among other things, by resignment in self-submission." From that sense we can conclude that spiritual health is a calm, secure and peaceful state of mind. Islam itself explains that spiritual health or eliciting inner peace can be obtained in many ways one of them by:
- Drawing closer to God: this we can do with dhikr to God, remembering His glory, a blessing we can never count, remember the sins we have committed and repent not to repeat them, and ask Allah to forgive them all the deeds that have been done.
- Reading al-quran: Al-qur'an other than as the main life guidance for the Muslims but also a drug (syifaa) for the hearts of those who read it, try reading the Qur'an with impregnated and slow, although we do not understand and understand the contents of the verses that we read but surely your heart will feel comfortable and calm, even for people who understand Arabic and know the contents of the verse of al-qur'an he will appreciate the true content even can cry in remembering sins that have been done .
- Reading shalawat: the prophet's prayer that we chant slowly, impregnated, and full of reflection will make our hearts become comfortable. Shalawat is the way of believers to glorify Prophet Muhammad SAW even in the command of reading shalawat, Allah Almighty mentioned that Allah Himself is in repentance upon Prophet Muhammad SAW, then commanded to His angels, only then on those who believe to have piety on it. With this increasingly shows that performing a prayer on the Prophet Muhammad, not just an expression of gratitude, but he also became the main worship. If we want to know that shalawat is the main worship, then pay attention and meditate on Allah's word in the Qur'an:
إن الله وملائكته يصلون على النبي ياأيها الذين آمنوا صلوا عليه وسلموا تسليم
"Verily Allah and His angels, praying over the Prophet, O believers, pay your respects to the prophet and say a salute of honor to him". (Surah Al-Ahzab 56)
then what are we waiting for? God alone is the god of the universe to pray to the Prophet, then what about us servants who are still full of sin? Try to repent to the Prophet must first come in our heart is tranquility.
- The night prayer: the most powerful way we need to try next to calm our minds is by night prayer, Salat Tahajud done in the middle of the night, where most humans sleep in their sleep and the various activities of life stop, and the atmosphere is so quiet, silent and calm, strongly support the concentration of someone who will get closer (taqarrub) to Allah SWT. In addition to these external conditions, there is also an internal condition, namely a serenity felt by the psychic or inner man who performs the Tahajud prayer.
- Gathered with pious people: the environment is the main space in a new personal formation, if the environment we singgahi good then we will feel the good effects, but if the environment we singgahi bad then also will have a bad impact for us. In the context of inner calm, a well-defined environment also approaches and gathered with pious people, surely we will get the peace of mind because what is said and done by pious people will produce a sense of comfort and calm.
There are many more actually the way Islam teaches us to calm the heart, but enough with the above five things if done really, God willing we will become human beings who have spiritual health and calm in living the problem of life.
3. Positive Thinking
Positive thinking in Islam is better known as 'Husnudzon', in life we must encounter difficult problems and make us think bad, then surely you think what is the relationship positive thinking with healthy life? Yes, a person who has the attitude husnudzon akan mepertimbangkan everything with clear mind, mind and heart clean from prejudice that not necessarily kebenaranya. On the contrary, the person whose thoughts are always dominated by the attitude of su'uzan (worse suspect) will always look at everything ugly, as if there is not the slightest good in his sight, his mind has been confined by the attitude that assumes others are inferior to him. Bad attitudes thought to be synonymous with suspicion, anxiety, anger and hate when suspicion, anxiety, anger and hatred are merely unclear feelings, sometimes what is feared to happen to him or others is not proven at all.
So if our bodies, spirits and minds are healthy or spared from illness then we will live this life meaningfully, we can also be a devout Muslim to Allah and His apostle for always keeping these three aspects according to the guidance of Islam.
Therefore, I through this blog will invite all visitors to both learn to keep physical, spiritual, and thoughts with posts that insha Allah useful for us. because I also still need a lot of learning then I hope my friends can also give criticism and suggestions that I hope to accept more to advance this blog and share knowledge.
